I don't know how many folks here are familiar Cracked, but I find their articles entertaining. Here's a good one:

seriously the Cars?

I saw them open up for Styx (gack! what we suffer for love- well lust anyway) before thier first album was released, so no one outside of Boston had even heard of them. They were the first band in 3 band line up - middle band was really horrible. Angel or something like that.

The Cars rocked! Usually on these kind of billings the first band gets booed off the stage, this time they came back for an encore they went over so well. It was reallty good spirited rock and roll. That first album was very good. Due to this experience I went to see them later when they were the headliner and it was the worst concert I ever experienced. 1 hour and 10 minutes of garbage, horrible stage show, big attitude and just plain BS. They got booed by the Bay Area crowd. They defined what a crap rock band is all about. Once they tasted any success they became lazy and didn't give a damn about their audience.

One, maybe two albums of any worth and then pure crap is supposed to make you HOF worthy?

I would have to remove the Cars from this list and replace them with KISS. Seriously, has anyone here ever dressed up as their favorite Car for halloween?

2 words: Paulina Porizkova. She still kills me - mostly because she's one sharp broad. Love those Czech gals...

Cant believe they snubbed Kochman too. All that groundbreaking taping he was doing in the early 70's - I thought surely he was in this year...Oh well Rob - there's always next year.

bullshit, no RUSH? I don't care how ridiculous people think their themes and lyrics are there's no denying their musicianship set a massively high bar. To really appreciate that check out the fantastic documentary that came out a year or two ago. You have members of Foo Fighters, Pantera, Metallica, Smashing pumpkins, Les Claypool, and I forgot all else saying what a hige influence they were.I mean they were THE band for JR high school dudes ( definitely not a band that girls liked )wanting a little something more impressive in their testosterone driven rock.

Throw away all the rest and put in Rush and Ian Anderson, unless we have to make sure everyone gets a trophy.

From the article:
"So I decided there should be one prog rock entry on this list, as the Hall has seen fit to snub Rush, Yes, Kansas, King Crimson, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, the Moody Blues and a host of other bands who have made important contributions to rock. My prog rock pick? Jethro Tull."

Rush is the next prog rock band he mentions after Tull, and I think he's implying that all those prog rock bands should be in.

In all Cracked articles with lists, they keep it to roughly 5 things in order to prevent the articles from being too long. I agree that Rush should be near the top of the list though. But I also think Tull's body of work is just as impressive.

I saw RUSH play in 1980 - decent stoner prog rock, and I don't much care for prog rock. It was really funny as there were the usual RUSH hyper intellectual fans all about and 38 Special was the opening act. Long haired southern dirtbag rock combined with introverted intellectual show-off rock. What a combination.

I can't blame this one on a girlfriend...as there were no females in attendance. This proves that the women are indead smarter...

About two years later, I saw Iron Maiden open for .38 Special. This was "The Number of the Beast" tour and, probably, IM's first foray this far into the South. At some point, the giant automaton, Eddie, comes out and the .38 Special fan in front of me turns to his buddy and yells, "Goddamnit! What the heeeeelllllll is that?" His buddy squinted at the stage and replied "That's a tall feller!"

I saw the Danny Joe Brown Band open for the Kinks in Atlanta. Danny Joe was the lead singer for, hold the applause, Molly Hatchet! Us young punks showed him no love.

First show I saw when I moved to Atlanta was the Johny Van Zandt Band opening for Foghat opening for ... The Outlaws. Hot damn!

I can't tell you how many newspapers I rolled (mebbe, fifty thousand?) listening to Foghat's "Night Shift" 8-track booming out of my dad's giant Sansuis that my mother had decided were fuckin' up living room's feng shui. And when I tired of Foghat, I had a handful of K-tels, Beach Boys "Live in London '69", half-a-dozen Elvis, and Chicago's Greatest Hits that my neighbor had RECORDED on a blank 8-track (I guess from vinyl) and gave to me if I would join Columbia House as his referral.

Funny how it took folks on this board and my kids to convince me Rush had value, but I always, always loved Tull.

Would agree both should be there...

However, is there really any diff among bands like Styx, Boston, Kansas, blah, blah, blah? 70s butt rock, I thought? I am sure I've just said something wrong, lumping bands together where I shouldn't, but hey, I used to put Rush in there too, til I found out they were different.

;)
